Times change. People change.
But some things are consistent; the rising of the sun, the blue of the sky (usually), the clock that continues ticking its steady beat.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
It’s all consistent. Always there. Never changing.
Or so you think. ;)
Sometimes, change is a bad thing. It can throw a wrench into our daily lives--into everything we planned and looked forward to. Take COVID, for example. It wrecked so many things in my life--the performances I was looking forward to, the vacation, the classes I was in.
It took everything away.
But this post isn’t to mourn everything COVID has taken from us. Quite the opposite, actually.
Because if COVID has shown me anything, it’s shown me that we can’t rely on anything or anyone. We can’t even rely on the sidewalk under our own feet, or the house we live in.
Because one day, it might fall.
We can’t rely on anyone--except for Christ.
When I was younger, I thought God had changed over the years. The God I felt today didn’t feel the same as the one who spoke to Moses through a burning bush and healed many people.
But that forced me to wonder, now, does technology and social media distance us from God? Are all the things available to us as modern humans lulled us into complacency or unbelief?
I’m not judging anyone here. There’s been times when I’ve been too lazy to read my Bible or pray. There’s been times I’ve thought that maybe He doesn’t exist. That maybe He doesn’t really care for us nowadays because of all our sin.
But as I flip through the pages of the Bible, I realized that there were some huge horrors committed all throughout the Bible. But did God turn a deaf ear, or say “I’m so done with you guys?” Did He turn His back on mankind?
No.
Hebrews 13:8 says: “Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Within context, the passage explains that it’s important to stay close to the Bible and know His word, because if not, one might be “led away by diverse and strange teachings.” (Hebrews 13:9).
That’s why there is importance in reading His Word--because it’s just as applicable to us now--and God is still the same now--as it will be twenty years from now.
He’s that consistent.
Knowing that, we can trust in the same One who makes the sun rise every morning. The same One who made the sky blue. The same One who created time. Knowing that He is never changing. That He hasn’t turned His back on us and never will.
He’s the same God of the Bible--everything in the Bible could happen within our times. God can speak to us out of the blue. God can show us the way--who knows? He can work miracles and even part the sea!
He’s still the same.
So today, I challenge you. Flip through the Bible and see God’s character for yourself. And take comfort in knowing that He is good, and He never changes. His love for you hasn’t changed, even through generations of sin and rebellion against God.
